Lioba Simon Schuhmacher teaches Literatures in English at the University of Oviedo, Spain. Most of her academic publications focus on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries from a cross-cultural perspective (Chamisso, Burke, Feijoo, Jovellanos, Clavijo y Fajardo, Wieland, Fontane), the education of women, poetry, and the periodical press. For many years she worked for European Higher Education programmes (such as ERASMUS) in Brussels and in Madrid, and has specialized in international education policies and mobility, a field in which she features further publications. She is on the governing board of the Foundation “Foro Jovellanos” in Gijón, Spain, and currently co-editor of the eighteenth century magazine Cuadernos Jovellanistas. Recently she was hosted as a guest researcher by the University of Georgia, USA.
