Ciara Whelan is a second-year Ph.D. student researching Film Studies and Cultural Studies at University College Dublin. Her doctoral research into contemporary Irish masculinities and the discursive production of existential gender crises in post-Celtic Tiger screen and star texts is the first major study of Irish celebrity culture in the multi-platform era, and she has published in journals including Quarterly Review of Film and Video and Film Matters. Her research is funded by Research Ireland.
