Jeannine Woods lectures in the Discipline of Gaeilge (Irish language) in the University of Galway, Ireland. Her scholarly background encompasses the fields of cultural anthropology, cinema, Irish language, literature and ethnology. Her research interests include the themes of language, representation, performance and identity in traditional and contemporary popular culture. She is the author of Visions of Empire and Other Imaginings: Cinema, Ireland and India c.1910–1962 (Peter Lang, 2011) and she has published widely on aspects of Irish and Irish-language cinema, drama, literature and popular culture past and present.
