Joanna Kruczkowska works as Associate Professor at the Institute of English Studies, University of Łódź, Poland, and specialises in comparative poetry (Irish, British, Polish, Modern Greek), travel writing, socio-political contexts, translation and ecocriticism. After her Ph.D. dissertation (“The Role of Contemporary Northern Irish Poetry in the Context of the Conflict in Ulster”, Université Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle and University of Łódź), she focused on the perception of modern Greece in the work of contemporary Irish poets (travel, translation, reception of Modern Greek poetry). Part of the project, titled IRELLAS, was conducted at the University of Athens in the framework of a visiting scholarship (2012) and a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (2015-16; www.irellas.com). The related publications include the monograph Irish Poets and Modern Greece: Heaney, Mahon, Cavafy, Seferis (2017), the edited volume Landscapes of Irish and Greek Poets: Essays, Poems, Interviews (2018) and a series of articles. Currently, she is undertaking comparative research on the poetry of the economic crisis (2008-2015) in both countries.
